There's a First Time for Everything!

I just returned from an incredible 5-day trip to Zanzibar---it was a trip of many firsts!
- The first time I rode in a car where the alignment was so off the steering wheel was turned 90 degrees to go straight.
- The first time I've ever been in such hot and humid climate (I thought Japan in the summer was bad).
- The first time I shared a small bed with a friend under a mosquito net and couldn't sleep because of the heat.
- The first time I had a freshly-made banana chocolate pizza at the amazing food market.
- The first time I saw, smelled and learned about all of the different Zanzibari uses for a variety of spices, fresh off of the tree/plant/root.
- The first time I saw and swam in the Indian Ocean.
- The first time I saw such a beautiful color of water and blinding white sand.
- The first time I got stung by anything in water---a sea urchin of all things! And the first time I've been healed by the nectar of a fruit.
- The first time I got a henna tattoo.
- The first time the locals knew I was Japanese and not "China", calling out to me with their token Japanese lines "konnichiwa", "ogenkidesuka", etc. as they tried to sell me whatever was in their store.
- The first time I was in a van going 120kph (70+mph!) on narrow roads, thinking about the possibility that these were the last minutes of my life...
- The first time I met strangers on the plane whose company I enjoyed so much we exchanged contact information.
